Keith Van Sickle grew up near San Fransisco and has had a successful career in the tech industry. Twenty years ago, he was transferred to Switzerland and it changed his life. He and his wife decided later to quit their jobs, work as consultants, and split their time between France and California. Since the move, Keith has been diagnosed with celiac and talks about what it is like to navigate the gluten-free lifestyle in the land of baguettes and croissants.

It’s Holiday time and Mike and Cam get in the Holiday “spirit” by sampling a couple of spirits! They also talk about Mike’s recent trip east that was full of gluten free goodness.

Mike and Cam are extremely pleased to be joined by celiac and gluten free trailblazer Jules Shepard. Jules is an associate editor of Gluten Free & More magazine. We talk to Jules about the challenges she faced finding safe gluten free food during a recent hospital stay, and ways that we can all advocate for ourselves when faced with these types of situations. We also discuss Jules’ longtime work as a celiac advocate and how a giant gluten free cake ultimately lead to initial gluten free labeling rules and enforcement by the FDA.

Mike and Cam sit down to talk about the early stages of Cam’s training with Dawn Scheu of Willow Service Dogs. We talk about how Cam was able to find out that his dog Lacy was a candidate for the program. Cam discusses the time commitment, some of the challenges that go into it, and some of the reasons that this type of training is different and more challenging than obedience training.

Mike and Cam discuss the latest Cheerios announcement: Cheerios is removing the gluten-free labels from their cereal in Canada, but not the U.S. Troubling to say the least! Also, celebrity chef, Jamie Oliver, is in hot water with GiG and it looks like a new celebrity is part of the “Celiac Club!”

Mike and Cam are excited to be joined by lawyer turned blogger Jodi Ettenberg. Jodi founded the site Legal Nomads, where she “tells stories through food.” Jodi shares with us the painstaking process of how she developed her innovative celiac travel cards. We also learn about her fascinating life and adventures, including a culinary regret that she has involving a llama empanada. In addition she encourages all of us to not let our celiac disease hold us back when we travel, and shares some of her top travel tips!
